Guest access brings a client, contractor, or supplier into a specific Team without giving them an account or a licence in your tenant.
A guest sees everything in the Team you add them to, files included. Where the work is with one client, a Team for that project beats adding them to a general one.
In Teams, open the Team's menu, choose Add member, and type their email. Any work or personal address can be invited; the tenant's external-access policy decides whether the invitation is permitted.
The invitation email is filtered as junk more often than anything else Microsoft sends. Tell them it is coming and which address it comes from, and have them check the junk folder.
After accepting, guests must switch organisation in Teams using the account picker at the top right. Guests who say they cannot see the Team have almost always accepted but not switched.
Guest access outlives projects unless someone ends it. Put the removal date in the calendar the day you add them, or ask us to review guests periodically.
If invitations are refused or never arrive, that is usually an external-access policy in the tenant rather than a Teams problem — send us the guest's address and the Team name and we will check the policy.
If the fault turns out to be in the Microsoft service rather than your setup, we take it from there — you keep one point of contact.
