Deleted files and previous versions are recoverable for a limited window in both OneDrive and SharePoint — including recovery from ransomware or a bad bulk edit.
A file from your OneDrive is in the OneDrive recycle bin on the web; a file from a team site is in that site's recycle bin. Looking in the wrong one is the usual reason people conclude it is gone.
Items removed from the first recycle bin drop into a second-stage bin before being purged. From the recycle bin page, follow the link to the second-stage bin.
Right-click the file on the web or in Teams and choose Version history. Earlier versions are kept, so you can preview and restore the one from before the bad save — the file need not have been deleted.
OneDrive and SharePoint libraries can be rolled back to a point in time within the retention window. This is the tool for ransomware or a script that damaged thousands of files. Ask us — restoring the wrong window makes it worse.
Recovery windows are finite and they run from the moment of deletion, not the moment you notice. If a file matters, look for it today.
